Scour works progress at River Tweed

Story Contracting’s Story Scotland division are carrying out essential bridge engineering works for Network Rail to protect the railway near Tweedbank Train Station in the Scottish Border town of Galashiels. This will involve installing concrete mattresses in the river below to protect the bridge from being damaged from the fast-flowing river.

The unique methodology has be developed in close consultation with SEPA, NatureScot and the River Tweed Commission to mitigate any impact on the ecology of their area which is a SSSI and SAC.

This work will strengthen the bridge for years to come, ensuring trains and passengers are safe so they can continue travelling all over Scotland’s Railway.
