Story named Green Energy Skills winner at Scottish Renewables ‘Green Energy Supply Chain Awards’ 2025

Story Contracting is celebrating success after being named the winner of the Green Energy Skills category at this year’s Scottish Renewables ‘Green Energy Supply Chain Awards’, held in Aberdeen last night.

The award recognises organisations going above and beyond to prepare the workforce of the future. Story impressed the judges with its Graduate and Graduate Apprentice Early Careers Programme, which equips the next generation of engineers and quantity surveyors with the skills, knowledge, and experience needed to deliver Scotland’s transition to net zero.

Through a structured programme of secondments, mentoring, technical training, development days, and hands-on project experience, participants gain exposure to all aspects of the energy industry, from engineering and design to safety, environmental, and commercial roles. To date, 24 people have completed the programme in Scotland with a 100% retention rate, and a further nine new colleagues started their early careers journey this month.

Alan Boyle, Managing Director of Story’s Energy Division in Scotland, said:

“We are incredibly proud to win this award, which is a fantastic recognition of the hard work our teams have put into developing the talent pipeline Scotland needs. At Story, we know that tackling skills shortages is vital to our construction industry. By investing in talented young people and career changers, we are supporting the growth of our business and helping to secure the future of green energy in Scotland.”

Claire Mack, CEO of Scottish Renewables, said:

“We offer our huge congratulations to Story Contracting on winning the Scottish Green Energy Supply Chain award for Green Energy Skills. Their graduate apprenticeship scheme is a worthy winner, making an outstanding contribution to a critical element of our economic growth and clean energy journey here in Scotland. Growing our skills base at all levels is essential and the commitment of Story through this programme was rightfully recognised by the panel of industry peers who judged this award, kindly sponsored by Ocean Winds.”

This recognition from Scottish Renewables underlines Story’s commitment to building a sustainable workforce, while strengthening partnerships with universities, colleges, and industry bodies in Scotland to inspire more people to pursue careers in construction.
