Meet the team

Angus Irving

Client Relationship Manager

Angus Irving was appointed Client Relationship Manager in October 2016 after having worked for the company for 16 years in various roles, including Operator and Plant Manager. Angus is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with our client base across England. An essential element of Angus’s role is to quickly respond to queries and ensure all customer needs are met, in line with Story Contracting’s commitment to ‘doing it right’ and exceeding client expectation.

Daniel Hughes

Estimator

Daniel was appointed Estimator in 2013 after having worked as a Trainee Estimator for the company for 5 years following him joining the company as a ground worker for 2 years. Daniel is responsible for managing and completing tenders for the construction side of the business. An essential element of Daniel’s role is to ensure that the tender deadlines are met. Prior to joining Story Contracting Daniel worked for Graham Steel Erectors as a steel erector and Ian Pearson Joinery as a Joiner.

Dougie Aitken

Trainee Trainer Assessor

Dougie Aitken was appointed Trainee Trainer Assessor in August 2014 after having worked for the company for 14 years. Dougie is responsible for road rail vehicle training, and all attachments that go with the machines. An essential element of Dougie Aitken’s role is to ensure all Story Road Rail Operators are competent and trained to use all machines and attachments safely to meet and exceed Story and Network Rail on track plant standards. Prior to joining Story, Dougie worked as a deep sea fisherman from leaving school at 15 up until 1996. Following this he joined Alan Tuer and then moved onto Hewden plant hire. Dougie left the company for a short spell to work at J Murphy & Son but returned after 7 months. Dougie is now training to become and Trainer Assessor and is looking forward to finishing his qualifications in Learning & Development Level 3 & 4.

Hayley Fieldhouse

Assistant Accountant

Hayley was appointed Assistant Accountant in 2013 and has worked for the company for 2 years.

An essential element of Hayley’s role is to ensure that financial reports are presented to budget holders and senior management teams in a timely manner and that they are accurate and user friendly. Hayley’s time at Story’s has given her a greater understanding of job costing as well as the opportunity to engage with a range of people across the business. Prior to joining Story Contracting Hayley worked for the Cumberland Building Society as a finance officer. Hayley is currently studying towards her CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants) qualification.

Jonny Fearon

Project Manager

Jonny was appointed Project Manager in 2014 after having worked for the company for 12 years. Responsible for the delivery of our earthworks portfolio throughout CP5. An essential element of Jonny’s role is to ensure that our client’s expectations are fulfilled, by delivering projects safely, on programme and to budget whilst providing cost effective solutions. Jonny has developed his career during his time at Story originally working as part-time site operative when joined the company in 2002 through to his current role as Project Manager.

Nicky Routledge

Quantity Surveyor

Nicky was appointed as a Quantity Surveyor in 2013 after having worked for the company for five years as a Trainee and Assistant Quantity Surveyor. Responsible for the commercial aspects of the construction process including accurately measuring and valuing works and associated client liaison, collation and reporting of financial information and procurement and of specialist subcontractors. An essential element of Nicky’s role is to work closely with all members of the project team to influence site operations to ensure best value both for Story and our clients is continually achieved. Prior to joining Story Contracting Nicky completed his A-Levels at Trinity School in Carlisle. Nicky was supported by Story Contracting to completed a BSc Hons Quantity Surveying degree at Northumbria University during his first five years with the company. Nicky is looking forward to gaining further experience of the construction industry by working on a wide range of projects with different clients and continuing his personal development with Story Contracting.

Rachael Williamson

Training Co-ordinator

Rachael Williamson was appointed Training Co-ordinator in 2001. Rachael’s responsibilities are to prepare, facilitate, monitor and organise all training activities within the company. An essential element of Rachael’s role is the administration of CITB testing and the claiming of grant related funding. Prior to working for Story Contracting Rachael worked for a local Quantity Surveying firm for 5 years in an administrative role.

Kimberley Middleton

Rail Graduate

Kimberley was the first person to enrol on our new 3 year Graduate Programme which involves her spending time in various roles within our Rail Division such as Engineer and Project Agent. Having recently gained a 1st Class Honours in MEng Civil & Structural Engineering from the University of Leeds, she originally joined Story Contracting in 2013 on a placement while studying her undergraduate degree. Kimberley enjoys how dynamic the rail sector is, finding that no two days are the same. She’s always found everyone at Story Contracting very welcoming and helpful and sees so much opportunity to progress.
