Graduate Engineer
Prior to joining Story Contracting, Claudia studied an Integrated Masters in Civil Engineering at Teesside University. She wanted to be in an industry that had the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, which attracted her to apply for the graduate programme at Story.
Claudia assists the lead engineer with the planning and the day-to-day engineering activities during the construction stage of the project, track monitoring to ensure no works affect the track and the management of the quality of works done on site.

Graduate Engineer
Prior to joining Story Contracting in 2018, Jamie gained his Undergraduate and Postgraduate Degrees at the University of the West of Scotland and Strathclyde respectively. Between these studies he gained experience as an Assistant Estimating Engineer for a piling contractor.
The Graduate Scheme offers Jamie the opportunity to undertake a variety of roles including a Trainee Project Agent role and an external design secondment.
“My role is exciting as it gives me exposure to being both on-site and, in the office, seeing the project transition from planning and design to real-world application. I am looking forward to undertaking different roles within the company, broadening my skills and understanding of the industry.”
Trainee Engineer
Prior to joining Story Contracting, Grant worked at Nestle as a Multi-skilled Maintenance Engineer, before travelling around New Zealand. He was attracted to his trainee role due to the large and work Story carry out.
As a Trainee Engineer, Grant assists with all technical aspects of engineering, both on housing sites and civils projects.
“My favourite thing about my role at Story is being out on site working full-time whilst gaining a huge amount of on the job training from the Engineer I shadow and work with.”
Trainee Quantity Surveyor
Chris joined Story Contracting in 2017 to work in the Story Scotland division, dividing his time between working and studying towards a degree in Quantity Surveying. He was attracted to his position at Story due to its reputation and rapid growth, wanting to be a part of the business going forward and contribute to success in the future.
He enjoys the variety each day brings as there are a wide range of exciting projects to work on. Recently, he’s been involved in projects such as Blackford Level Crossing Replacement and Cupar & Singer Access Staircase Replacements.

Assistant Project Manager
Hamza joined Story Contracting, Rail England division after graduating from the University of Leeds with a Masters degree in Civil and Structural Engineering.
Hamza’s current role is as an Assistant Project Manager. His role involves taking part in important meetings with stakeholders, reviewing design drawings and writing various reports in line with Network Rail regulations.
“My favourite part so far has been witnessing my personal and professional development as I’m continuously facing new challenges and experiences, providing multiple opportunities for learning. I’m excited for the future and fulfilling my potential.”
Assistant Estimator
Macey joined Story in June 2019 as a Trainee Estimator for the Rail England division.
As an Assistant Estimator, Macey’s role consists of producing high quality and commercially viable work winning tenders. As well as this, building and maintaining effective and genuine client relationships.

Quantity Surveyor
After leaving Sixth Form in 2016, Molly joined Story Contracting. As a Trainee Quantity Surveyor, Molly’s role involves keeping a close eye on the project finances and contractual relationships. She measures and values works, undertakes cost forecasts, produces financial reports and price variations, completes CVRs and manages subcontractors. Molly also completed in Quantity Surveying degree at Northumbria University whilst working with Story.
“My favourite thing about working at Story Contracting is the people. The wealth of knowledge the staff have here is invaluable and everyone is always happy to help. In my opinion, the majority of my learning is done on the job, not in the classroom.”
