We have an exciting opportunity for a Track Project Engineer to join our Track Team as part of  Story Scotland - and there has never been a better time to join!  Whilst our office is based in Blantyre, Glasgow, you will be on projects in Manchester

The Role

As a Track Project Engineer at Story Contracting you will report to the Senior Track Engineer. You will coordinate the technical delivery of projects, providing engineering support to ensure works are constructed safely, to standard, and efficiently. You will have practical experience of Permanent Way track renewals and projects, supporting the lifecycle from tender stage through to site implementation and handback. This role is focused on site delivery, construction methodology, and quality control, working between the office and site to deliver track new install projects, renewals, and enhancements.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Strong background in Permanent Way delivery with solid technical knowledge of rail standards and procedures.
  • Competent in project planning, possession and resource management, and turning programmes into workable daily tasks.
  • Effective leader with the ability to coordinate multi‑disciplinary teams and communicate clearly on site.
  • Skilled in CAD, digital surveying tools (Trimble/Leica) and electronic document control (RFI/TQ).
  • Holds relevant engineering qualifications (HNC/HND/Degree) and is working toward professional membership (e.g., PWI).
  • Commercially aware, with the ability to record site activities accurately to support claims and cost control.
  • Safety‑focused, proactive, organised, and confident in challenging unsafe practices.
  • Full UK driving licence and willing to work shifts, weekends, and bank holidays
