The Role
As Environment and Sustainability Lead you will lead the delivery of our environmental and sustainability agenda — driving carbon reduction, strengthening ESG reporting and elevating environmental performance across the Group. You will shape and embed our sustainability strategy, oversee carbon and Net Zero initiatives, and ensure robust governance and compliance. You will also champion sustainability culture across the organisation, build strong internal and external partnerships, and lead projects that improve environmental outcomes in areas such as waste, water, biodiversity and resource efficiency. Through clear reporting, effective leadership and strategic insight, you will help position Story Contracting as a responsible and forward‑thinking business.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in improving environmental and sustainability performance, backed by a relevant degree (or equivalent experience gained in a similar role) and professional accreditation such as IEMA Associate or a commitment to achieving it. They’ll have strong knowledge of environmental impacts, legislation, carbon management, ESG frameworks and ISO 14001, with confidence handling sustainability data and reporting.
You will also be an effective communicator with strong coaching and collaboration skills, supported by civil engineering knowledge, auditing capability, IT proficiency and the ability to build strong working relationships.
