We have an exciting opportunity for a Design Manager to join our Rail Division based from our Birmingham office - and there has never been a better time to join!
The Role
As a Design Manager at Story Contracting you will pro-actively lead and manage the design process and team in accordance with Network Rail and regulatory standards whilst maximising efficiencies with external design consultants and introducing innovation and value engineered solutions.
Key Responsibilities;
Develop, maintain and strengthen relationship with key stakeholders, predominantly Network Rail Asset Management Teams.
Responsibility for integrating Safe by Design approach to design management process.
Lead and manage the design process to deliver cost effective, buildable and considered solutions working in unison with project management teams and internal stakeholders.
Responsibility for tactical allocation of consultants based on experience, capacity and skill set and management of delivery to agreed programme, quality and cost.
Responsibility for continuous improvement through design lessons learned and sharing best practice and lessons both internally and externally.
Identify future people capability and capacity requirements to deliver a growing business plan.

The Ideal Candidate:
Qualified to degree level, HNC/HND or equivalent in Civil Engineering
Chartered Engineer in a relevant discipline (desirable)
Experience working as CRE or CEM (desirable)
Robust knowledge of design disciplines and practices
Experience of working within the rail and/or construction industry
Extensive experience of working with and driving a high level of engineering principles
Good working knowledge of H&S regulations and legislation
Good understanding of Network Rail specifications, standards and procedures
Strong commercial acumen
Excellent communication skills
Excellent influencing skills
Experience of managing and leading a team
