The way electricity is generated has been evolving over the past 20 years, with an increasing amount of the power required coming from renewable energy.

This is very different to how electricity has been generated over the last century with large coal and gas fired power stations being used to provide the baseload to cope with demand.

What is BESS?

Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) offer the ability to stabilise and balance the outflow of electricity from renewable sources, and ensure that it is used most effectively.

Battery storage assists the grid operators by working flexibly – storing electricity at times of peak renewable generation and discharging that energy during times when demand is greatest.

Batteries are housed in containers, installed on concrete foundations and surrounded by enclosed fencing to maintain security.

Landscaping and environment

Our proposals typically seek to retain existing trees and hedgerows around the site.

In addition, comprehensive landscaping is included as part of the planned development to ensure that there is minimal visual impact from houses and public vantage points.

Our process

We identify appropriate sites, secure grid connections, planning consents, and negotiate long-term leases or site purchases ideal for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) projects.

If you have land, you think would be suitable for a BESS opportunity, our team will undertake a feasibility study and assess the suitability of your land. If there is potential, we will then look to agree an Option to Lease, which would usually be for a 30+ year period or a straight forward Land Purchase.

Story Future Energy will cover the planning and grid connection applications. Upon successful completion of these steps, the Lease or Purchase can be executed and the project will move into the construction and operational phases.
