Browney Curve wins Infrastructure Achievement of the Year

Story Contracting has been recognised at the prestigious National Rail Awards, winning Infrastructure Achievement of the Year for its outstanding contribution to the UK rail industry through the Browney Curve project.

The award reflects the company’s commitment to delivering innovative, sustainable, and collaborative infrastructure solutions that not only meet the needs of today’s railway but also help shape a resilient and environmentally conscious future.

At the ceremony, the judges commended the project, stating: “With state-of-the-art geotechnical and water management solutions, this team conquered a challenge that had defeated the best efforts of predecessors for nearly two centuries… and all without any delay to trains!”

The Browney Curve embankment stabilisation scheme represents a landmark achievement in geotechnical engineering. Delivered by Story Contracting in partnership with Network Rail, the £33 million project secured a historically unstable section of the East Coast Main Line through the installation of 529 reinforced concrete piles, advanced drainage systems, and a pioneering carbon-saving redesign.
