Celebrating over 30 years in the general construction industry, and with over 20 years’ experience of permanent way and rail related building and civil engineering projects, Story Contracting has grown into a highly respected company.  As part of that continued growth, we now have a new opportunity for a Senior Project Manager within the Central region of our Rail Division.‚Äč

Duties will include:

1.   Lead and manage the Client relationship to establish and understand their needs and expectations for project

  • Set the criteria for success for the project and measure against these
  • Establishment and development of mature client relationships to benefit the business
  • Proactive understanding of client budgets to drive successful commercial out-turn on project

2.    Delivery of an efficient and profitable project through leading and managing a multi-disciplinary team

  • Collaborate with the wider team to create and then lead a delivery plan for the project
  • Provide informed visibility of future workload
  • Identify and establish the best team to deliver the project whilst proactively managing capacity
  • Take ownership for the commercial out-turn of the project to meet business plan targets
  • Ensure project risk is understood, managed, communicated and escalated as required in accordance with company procedures
  • Lead readiness reviews and project close out meetings to ensure lessons learned are identified

4.   Identify future capability and capacity requirements to deliver the project

  • Coach and develop the project team to maximise their performance and potential
  • Identify skills and capacity gaps in conjunction with the project team and identify solutions through recruitment and training in conjunction with the Project Director
  • Set clear objectives for the project teams, managing under performance where required

5.    Accountability for safety and quality in the delivery of projects in the work bank

  • Work closely with the HSQE team to ensure safety standards are set and understood
  • Promote a safety-first culture and role model excellent safety behaviours
  • Promote an ongoing drive for quality
  • Carry out site engagement and safety inspections at the agreed frequency
